Call for Papers
The workshop aims to promote and discuss standardization and use of the
material data markup language. Material data exchange is becoming more
important in this global environment:
- The onset of a new and rapidly evolving era of materials design
research, where today product designers look to develop a material for
a particular application rather than use an existing material,
- The collaboration and international cooperation for sharing expertise
in materials research and education - especially among developed and
developing countries - to advance scientific knowledge, to train the
next generation of materials scientists, as well as to increase the
numbers of highly skilled technical workers and materials
professionals.
- The need for materials community to catch up with other scientific communities t hat are advancing their fields through modern
informatics, such as the use of di stributed systems of hardware,
software, information bases, and expert systems a s well as the
exponential growth in computing power, communication bandwidth, and data storage capacity.
International harmonization of data schemas for material property data,
like MatML or NMC-MatDB, is becoming more important and it will enable
use of material knowledge management within a semantic web framework. We
are organizing CODATA Task Group " Exchangeable Materials Data
Representation to support Scientific Research and Education" and plan
periodical meetings on this subject.
Participants are required to submit abstracts until 1st May, 2006
and notified acceptance until 15th June. This workshop will held at the CODATA
2006 International Conference (http://www.codataweb.org/06conf) between
21th and 25th October, 2006 in Beijing.
